I prefer Trotsky's definition of fascism ... it is a response of the
ruling class to working-class agitation and organization, using an
organized and enraged section of the economically-endangered "middle
class" to not just repress but to smash the independent organisations of
the working class. There are governments on the planet where it is both
illegal and unhealthy to belong to a labor union, but none of them are
in North America north of Guatemala ... yet. Brazil may be headed that
way again.

It's not just fancy uniforms and hobnailed boots. It's not just racism,
although that works into the mix all too easily. It's not just the
Corporate State, although that tends to be the result when the Fascist
movement attains political power and is no longer under the control of
its ruling-class sponsors. (And even the Nazi version of the Corporate
State did not nationalise for example Krupp and IGFarben, but instead
guaranteed the stockholders' profits.)
