Thefrost fell last night for the first time this autumn around Kareenberg, and weare enjoying some amazing color changes. The plains north of Kareenberg areespecially spectacular in shades of purple and orange. An elegant herd of massivehexapods are grazing there – our leader-of-the-day tells us that they’ll soonbe migrating towards the equator for better foliage. If you like that sort ofthing, they are delicious, and would feed a village, easily. They are also agreat producer of manure for Sergyaran plants, and they are the originators ofthe famous “pod-chips” – when dried, the pod-chips make great fuel forcampfires and stoves. No odor, no crumbling, and no fuss. They are truly anall-around animal, and many Serg-survivalists (people who pretend a worm-holehas happened, and re-enact the scenario over long, autumn weekends) want to createa “god status” for the creature in their games.

It’salso Carol Cooper’s birthday! If you like, Carol, you can name thesemiracles-on-six-legs. At any rate, the cake and ice cream are in the tent, sopull up a lounge-chair and watch these guys mow down the frost-touched bladesof purple and orange flora.
