It *can* hurt, if you don't do something you could do because you've
outsourced the solution to a maky-up sky fairy.

That goes both for the people suffering the Bad Thing, and also for
those who think "thoughts and prayers" are an alternative to getting off
their arses and helping out, or sending funds if nothing else.

The 5GU is different: the people there have objective evidence of the
reality of gods (OK, there's quibbling about how many...).
