[LMB] [LidlessEye] Deluxe Lutefisk Pineapple Pizza

I, on the other hand, loved it. The alien space bats/deus ex machina bit was a bit much to swallow, but a planetary Ground Mind coming back from the future to fix the past is not beyond the scope of science fiction. And that it would continue meddling in our affairs - that's plain human nature. How many ruling empires have NOT meddled in the affairs of their subjects?
But the wild, weird, and wonderful ways different places coped with things was endlessly fascinating. I love stories of how people do that. Others, of course, may be as bored with that as I am of prolonged sex scenes and/or detailed choreography of battles and weapons... (yes,I'm looking at you, Ms. H., Mr. W.....and any other authors whom the shoes fit.)

we had massive discussions (and a lot of missgivings) about this specific thing with Steve
AND yes; it IS supernatural forces (i will not explain further, due to spoilers) .. and i must admit it turned me off reading the series for pure pleasure, despite being an Alpha reader for Stirling (which is both a pleasure and a lot of work)

To put it bluntly, for the gas laws to be overturned requires the presence of Murphy’s Demons to shepherd every gas molecule in the atmosphere. Causing metals to be no longer electrically conductive is worse. The properties of metals (including conductivity) are emergent behavior of metal atoms as governed by quantum mechanics. Chemistry is also emergent behavior of atoms; life is emergent behavior of the chemistry of carbon atoms.
