One reason why not - and they're looking for ta relief on this one - is that liquor distilleries pay an excise tax based on whether it's 60-proof, 80-proof, etc... and hand sanitizer is way up there. And still, by law, being taxed as if it were very strong liquor.

I’ve heard the same.

It is odd to hear of some distilleries switching to making hand sanitizer for the nonce, but it makes sense. Laid off, furloughed, made redundant—can’t afford whisk(e)y, short on hand sanitizer. Why not?

Tangent: I never thought I’d ever see billboards advertising delivery of various marijuana products. The mind of my high school and college self would be boggled and gobsmacked.
