Part of what bugged me about the Sad Puppies situation was the howls of
"It's a SLAAATE!  That's not FAIRRR!"

FWIW, a "slate" is a list of recommendations.   Anybody at all can make
one, and nobody at all has to vote for every single item on a slate.
